ObjectiveThis study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy and investigate the influence of puncturing at the acupoints selected along the affected Meridian (Heart Meridian and Pericardium Meridian) on the levels of serum Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and C-reactive protein(CRP) of Chronic Stable Angina Pectoris (CSAP) patients.MethodsThis study included 36 CSAP patients, which were randomly divided into two groups:Group A, puncturing at Neiguan (PC6) and Tongli (HT5).Group B,puncturing at Yangxi (LI5) and Pianli (LI6). Manual acupuncture treatment was performed respectively once daily and totally for 10 days. The patients'angina frequency, Canada Cardiology Ssociation (CCS) angina severity classification and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the clinical efficacy. The serum level of Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and C-reactive Protein(CRP) were detected to partly explore the potential mechanism of acupuncture at the point selected along the affected meridian for treating CSAP using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). All date were analyzed by using SPASS17.0 software.Results1.Thirty six CSAP had finished this study.2.There was no statistical difference in baseline data between the two groups(p>0.05).3.The symptom changes of CSAP patients after acupuncture treatment in two groups.(1).Acupuncture at the points selected along the affected meridian (Group A) significantly decreased the patients' angina frequency and VAS score (p<0.05) of CSAP patients after the treatment. Acupuncture at the points which were not selected along the affected median (Group B) significantly decreased the VAS of the CSAP patients after the treatment (p>0.05).(2).There was not significant difference in the improvement of patients'angina frequency, CCS angina severity classification and VAS score (p>0.05).4.The changes in the serum levels of CRP and BNP of CSAP patient after acupuncture treatment in two groups. There were not significant differences in the serum levels of CRP?BNP in each group after acupuncture treatment (p>0.05).There was no significant differents in the serum levels of CRP?BNP between groups after acupuncture treatment(p<0.05).Conclusions1. Acupuncture on the point selected along the affected meridians decreased the patients' angina frequency and improve clinical symptom of the CSAP patients.2. Acupuncture at the points selected along/not along the affected meridians had not induced significant influence on the serum levels of CRP and BNP of CSAP patients for the relative shorter duration and smaller sample size.3. There was no adverse events and cardiovascular events in this trate.
