Objective To describe the changes of Harris hip scores,Functional independence measure and Body mass index in three different periods;to explore the effectiveness and feasibility of the combination of video feedback and telephone intervention on postdischarge rehabilitation in patients receiving unilateral hip replacement, which is to provide evidence for the local continuous nursing intervention. Methods 1. 120 patients meeting to the criterion were recruited and randomly carried out with 60 cases as an intervention and a control group respectively according to admitting time. The combination of video feedback and telephone in this study was conducted in the intervention group, and usual care in the control group. In the intervention group, the patients or their family member were asked to record the video of the exercises and daily living when patients were at home according instructions and researchers assessed the condition of patient's joint and muscle function and provided individual education and instructions to the patients on the basis of the feedback video through telephone. The intervention lasted for 6 months. 2.Harris hip scores,Functional independence measure and postoperative complications were assessed upon baseline,1st month,3rd months,6th months after operation. 3. Data was analyzed with SPSS 17.0.Statistical analysis methods include descriptive statistics,T test,chi-square Text, and analysis of variance of repeated measurment, etc. Results 1.There was no significant difference between the two groups in the clinical baseline data(P>0.05). 2.The difference of Harris hip scores was evaluated using an independent sample t-test or rank sum test. The first month after surgery,it showed difference between the intervention group and control group on pain, stairs, gait, support, walking distance, range of motion(P<0.05),while no significant difference on shoes and socks, sitting, enter public transportation and deformity(P>0.05);the third month after surgery,it showed statistical difference between the intervention group and control group on pain, stairs, sitting, support, range of motion, shoes and Socks, gait, walking distance,deformity(P<0.05),while no significant difference on transportation(P>0.05);at the 6th month,it was the same as the third month. 3. Analysis of variance of repeated measures showed that Harris hip score significantly increased compared with the control group(P<0.05).The level of the intervention group was better than the control group.Analysis of variance of repeated measures showed that FIM significantly increased compared with the control group(P<0.000).The results of repeated-measures analysis of variance indicated that the intervention group had shown a better recovery in general health than the control group(P<0.000).Analysis of variance of chi-square tests showed that the complications of THA decreased compared with the control group(P<0.05).The level of the intervention group was better than the control group. Conclusions The combination of video feedback and postdischarge telephone intervention is a safe and effective intervention style. It could help to promote the hip function, activities of daily living. We should promote this intervention style.
