Objective:The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between EcoRI polymorphisms of apolipoprotein B(apoB)gene and essential hypertension(EH)in the Han's population of Guizhou, and to explore the relationship between polymorphism of this locus and the blood lipids and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Methods: Eighty-one patients with EH and seventy-one normotensive individuals were selected, the apoB genotypes and alleles were determined by using polymerase chain reaction,we also measured the related lipids and body mass index(BMI),creatinine, usea nitrogen, glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc).Results:(1)In the normotensive(NT)group, the frequencies of genotypes of EcoRI E+E+ and E+E-were 0.887 and 0.113;in the EH group, the frequencies of genotypes of EcoRI E+E+ and E+E-were 0.864 and 0.136,respectively;the genotype of E-E-was not detected for the two groups.Comparison of the genotypic and allelic frequencies between the two groups revealed no statistically significant differences for the EcoRI locus polymorphisms(P>0.05).(2)In the control group, the frequencies of the alleles E+ and E-were 0.944 and 0.056,respectively;in the EH group, the frequencies of the alleles E+ and E-were 0.932 and 0.068.There was no significant differences in the allelic frequency distribution for the EH and NT groups(P>0.05).(3)The individuals carrying the E+E-genotypes showed higher significantly HbAlc and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)levels than those bearing the E+E+ genotypes in the EH group(P<0.05),but there were no relationships between genotypes of EcoRI locus and BMI,creatinine, usea nitrogen, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),LDL-C/HDL-C ratio,TC/HDL-C ratio and Lipoprotein a [LP(a)].Conclusion: Thegenotype and allele frequencies of EcoRI locus showed no significant difference between the two groups in the Han's population of Guizhou, but the locus was an important susceptibility site for HbAlc and LDL-C in hypertensive patients.
