Objective:By the means of oral Chinese medicine(Tangtong Yin)and acupoint catgut embedding,to intervene the rats with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. To observe and compare each group's fasting blood glucose, serum nerve growth factor and serum transforming growth factor beta 1,rats sciatic potential conduction velocity and sciatic pathomorphology changes,to explore the possible Mechanism and approach of treatment of DPN with sugar drink and catgut implantation at acupoint, and to provide a theoretical basis for clinical treatment and treatment options. Methods:The rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, catgut embedding group,Chinese medicine group,Chinese medicine and catgut embedding group(medicine catgut embedding group).By high energy diet feeding, combined with small dose of intraperitoneal injection of 0.1%concentration of STZ solution, diabetic peripheral neuropathy rat model was induced and established. Each group will be given treatment after the model was established. After 10 weeks of treatment, the FBG,rats sciatic potential conduction velocity, serum NGF,TGF-?1 and sciatic pathomorphology were detected.Result:1)The FBG value of rats in each treatment group has reduced compared with the model group(P<0.05 or P<0.01),especially the medicine catgut embedding group(P<0.01),there was no difference between the rest two treatment groups(P>0.05);2)Sciatic nerve action potential conduction velocity of the rats in the three treatment group was higher than the model group and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),nerve action potential conduction velocity among each treatment group has no significant difference(P>0.05);3)Serum NGF content of the rats in each treatment group has significantly increased compared with model group(P<0.01),and serum NGF content in drug embedding group has the most significant increase(P<0.01),the other two treatment group have no significant difference(P>0.05).4)Serum TGF-beta 1 content of the rats in the 3 treatment groups is lower than model group(P<0.01),among them the medicine embedding group has the most significant decrease(P<0.01),the other two treatment group have no significant difference(P>0.05);5)Sciatic nerve morphology of the rats in the model group was significantly changed compared with the normal group. After treatment, the sciatic nerve morphology of the three treatment group was better than that in the model group. Conclusion:Chinese medicine Tangtong Yin and acupoint catgut embedding can effectively treat DPN,delay the progress of the disease,It has best effect when the two work together. The mechanism may be:improve glucose metabolism by reducing blood sugar, increasing NGF content, reducing TGF-?1 content, repairing damaged nerve,so as to delay the progression of DPN.
