Director Dr. Lv Hua devoted herself to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for more than 30 years provided with noble moral integrity and rich experience in TCM. As a follower, I was benefit under the tutelage of supervisor Lv Hua. Supervisor herself already had characteristic academic system for thought and experience in TCM through innovation under the condition of inheritance, by long-term studying and exploring in theory and decades practice in clinic. Supervisor was especially skilled in diagnosis and treatment of TCM lung diseases, therefore it was of great significance to foll heir to her academic thought and experience in the field.1.Academic OriginThe formation of supervisor Lv Hua's academic thought was originated from her long-term unremittingly studying in TCM classical theory and diligent in TCM clinical practice as well as over and over again in thinking and summarizing. Through continuously studying classical theory, practicing clinical, validating and verifying clinical efficacy and drawing former experience, so far supervisor Lv Hua possessed her characteristic academic system.2.Overview of Research on Academic ThoughtSupervisor Lv Hua was committed to academic research and clinical practice in TCM lung diseases over the years with diligent in ancient precept, learning widely from former strong, tracing the origin, imitating without bog while innovating based on root, refining on better and integrating Chinese and western. In view of all together, supervisor Lv Hua possessed her characteristic academic system in TCM lung diseases.2.1 Integration of Diagnosis and Pattern Moreover Treatment Based on StagingIn the long-term clinical practice, supervisor Lv Hua gradually came to realize that there were occurrence, recurrence and exacerbation which divided into stages as acute exacerbation, chronic procrastinates and stabilization during the evolution in pulmonary diseases which was consistent with the understanding from TCM theory. Therefore supervisor Lv Hua thought that TCM lung diseases were divided into three stages as excess in evils (which was equivalent to the stage of acute exacerbation), excess in evils while deficiency in body (which was equivalent to the stage of chronic procrastinates) and deficiency in body (which was equivalent to the stage of stabilization). Meanwhile supervisor Lv Hua recognized that disease diagnosis and pattern differentiation were on the same level in the TCM treatment of disease, and furthermore to pattern differentiate based on the definite disease diagnosis was to figure out different pattern types in diseases. There was no doubt that the advantage in diagnosis disease of western medicine and based on which to pattern differentiation, which was the essence of the prerequisite in TCM treatment. Deepening the cognition of diseases relied on modern medical technology and then to thorough study the scientific connotation of treatment based on pattern differentiation. In the clinical practice, supervisor Lv Hua defied disease diagnosis and different pattern types firstly, then to master the regularity of disease development established in modern medicine and further to treat pattern established in TCM, which to avoid the blindness of the treatment and to conduct different treatment with the severity of the diseases.2.2 Integration of Internal and External, Focusing on recuperating Lungs and Kidneys and Protecting Stomach QiThrough the study of substantial TCM classical theory and combing with the TCM clinical, supervisor Lv Hua fused external therapy such as acupoint application into the treatment in TCM lung diseases and bring pill preparation, powder preparation and oral herbal paste into internal therapy. Supervisor Lv Hua took the lead in carrying the oral herbal paste by supplying kidney and promoting blood circulation during severe cold days in Qinghai region in winter which had obvious effect and recognized and praised by the patients. Supervisor Lv Hua also realized that the fundamental of the diseases was mostly excess in evils while deficiency in body and as well the disease were mainly situated the lung and kidney while often related to the spleen. Given to lung governing the Qi, kidney governing holding Qi and spleen and stomach was the foundation of acquired constitution which were the source of Qi and blood, supervisor Lv Hua proposed the view of recuperating lungs and kidneys and protecting stomach Qi in the treatment. Recuperating lungs and kidneys aimed at reducing the frequency of acute episode or exacerbation, reducing the severity of acute episode or exacerbation, slowing the progress of the disease and improving the quality of life of the patients. All these specific treatment methods and treatment strategies Fully reflected supervisor Lv Hua comprehending the nature of disease and giving full play to the theory and application in TCM.2.3 Treatment Based on Pattern Differentiation, Taking Pass as Regular and Taking balance as PrincipleSupervisor Lv Hua insisted on the most basic method and the dialectical concept in TCM clinical practice and base on which to make diagnosis and give treatment. Supervisor Lv Hua firstly emphasized we were sure to the principle of treatment based on pattern differentiation otherwise the uniqueness diagnosis and treatment in TCM would be losing, secondly emphasized we were sure to the law of dynamic change in pattern differentiation so as to recognize the development process in the disease and the pharmacodynamic changes in the treatment. In terms of treatment, Supervisor Lv Hua firstly lay stress on complying with the lung physiology and transparenting evils to the body surface to taking pass as regular, secondly lay stress on permeating the lung viscera according to the lung pathophysiology. The ultimate goal therapy was to take balance based on the overall philosophy of the concept and the doctrine of balance from TCM theroy.2.4 "Prevention before Occurrence or Transference of Diseases"Supervisor Lv Hua thought that "prevention before occurrence or transference of diseases" was very important significance in prevention and treatment of chronic lung diseases. That prevention before occurrence or transference of diseases included preventing the occurrence of diseases, preventing the development of diseases and preventing the progression of diseases which under the guidance of the traditional viewpoint as the correspondence between man and universe, treating secondary symptoms for emergency followed by treating chronic disease aiming at the principal aspect and fitting yang in spring and summer while yin in autumn and winter. Given to the point that there were exacerbation in winter and remission in summer in chronic lung disease, Supervisor Lv Hua carried on ? Plaster as acupoint application, catgut implantation at acupuncture point and Feixinxiazhi Pill and Shengeheche Capsule administered as oral, which was representative of "prevention before occurrence or transference of diseases". There was important and potential value in "prevention before occurrence or transference of diseases" to prevent the occurrence, development and progression of diseases chronic lung diseases which played a big role in prevention and treatment of diseases.3.Summary of Experience on Treating TCM Lung DiseasesSupervisor Lv Hua had the rich clinical experience especially at diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases with accurate pattern differentiation, precise herbal prescription and exact curative effect. As a follower, I held inherited experience to summary and sort the treatment based on pattern differentiation of remission stage of chronic cor pulmonale, oral TCM herbal paste on treating chronic lung diseases, treatment based on pattern differentiation of pulmonary interstitial fibrosis and scheme of pattern differentiation on cough disease from supervisor Lv Hua. Afterwards I induced the unique ideas, pattern differentiation method and treatment rule on diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases by supervisor Lv Hua.4.Clinical Observation on Treating Qi Deficiency and Blood Stasis Pattern in Remission Stage of Chronic Cor Pulmonale by Supplementing Qi, Eliminating Phlegm and Dredging MeridiansA randomized controlled trial was conducted on treating Qi deficiency and blood stasis pattern in remission stage of chronic cor pulmonale by supervisor Lv Hua's Supplementing Qi-Eliminating Phlegm-Dredging Meridians Recipe. The results showed that the total efficiency in trial group was 87.5% while that was 60% in control group (p<0.05). The trial group was superior to the control group in the symptom improvement and the 6-minute walk test (p<0.05). Compared with the control group, the routine blood test, arterial partial pressure of oxygen, arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide, blood rheology and pulmonary function test were all improved in the trial group (p<0.05).
