Bombyx batryticatus, the traditional Chinese medicinal materials, it is widely used in clinical treatments, due to its muti-pharmacologic effects including anti-convulsion,treatment of epilepsy, headache, prosopoplegia and other diseases. With the development of Bombyx batryticatus in the application of new functional drugs, especially in anticancer,antineoplastic and aesthetic health care, it is a significant question to study the differences of the composition of Bombyx batryticatus from different areas and to establish a complete,scientific and normative set of quality standards. In order to study 23 different samples collected from Sichuan, Zhejiang, Guangxi and Guangdong randomly, Chinese Pharmacopoeia edition 2015, the state food and drug quality inspection standard testing methods and relevant quality ingredients in specification were used to determination and statistical analysis of the composition and quality of Bombyx batryticatus in the market.The mainly results were as follows:(1)Detected water, ash, acid insoluble ash, the content of aflatoxin B1 and extract of 23 Bombyx Batryticatus from different regions. The results showed that quality of Bombyx batryticatus sold in the market is uneven, only two samples(Sichuan: No.1 &No.2) were qualified, and the control rate was only 8.70%, the unqualified rate was91.30%.(2)The determined results showed that the mineral elements was abundant in Bombyx batryticatus. 95.65% samples could accord with limits standard of Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2015). The average content of K was highly reach to 14874.78 ± 992.48mg/kg, and the second was Ca(13485.65±2379.51 mg/kg),the third is Mg(7053.48±1223.84 mg/kg). The average content of Cd was mere 1.68×10-2±0.01 mg/kg. In addition,the sample's(Guangxi:No. 13) content of Cu and As exceed the standard(Cu<20.0 mg/kg;As<2.0 mg/kg). Principal component analysis indicated that Bombyx batryticatuscharacteristic metal elements were Cr, Mn, Fe, Mg, K, P, as, Cu, Na. Cluster analysis could distinguish different areas of Bombyx batryticatus in some degree.(3)Detected and analyzed the compositions and contents of amino acids in 23 samples. The results showed that among the 17 kinds of amino acids, the maximum average content is glycine(9.740.39±0.39 mg/g), the followed were alanine(7.91±0.30 mg/g)and serine(5.56±0.17 mg/g), the minimum one is methionine(0.83±0.08 mg/g).Due to the amino acid score was less than 70, Bombyx batryticatus was not high in nutritive value.(4)The quality properties of Bombyx batryticatus were analyzed and evaluated synthetically. Principal component analysis was uesd to select three targets which could reflect the quality information of Bombyx batryticatus mainly. Therefore, this study suggested to add the content of protein, ammonium oxalate and fat as standards into the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Utilized the method of correlation analysis, principal component analysis and cluster analysis, 23 samples could be comprehensive analysised with water,protein, fat, ammonium oxalate,alcohol extract, and other 8 main quality indicators. The results showed that the relationship between the main quality and indexes of Bombyx batryticatus in different producing areas was complicated. Bombyx batryticatus' s quality was different in the same place. Clustering analysis indicated that part of Guangxi's Bombyx batryticatus were similar with Zhejiang's and Sichuan's in quality. Therefore, it could not to formulate the quality standards of Bombyx batryticatus merely based on geographical considerations.
