Objective: To explore the neuroprotective effect of electric acupuncture on hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in rats.Methods: Total of 90 cases of new-bore aged 7d SD rats were randomly divided into sham-operated group without ligating bilateral common carotid artery, model group and electric acupuncture group which subdivided into three groups of 3d, 7d and 21 d. The rats were established hypoxic-ischemic encephalopatly(HIE) models by occluding bilaterally the common carotid arteries. The pathology and ultrastructure of neuron were observed by HE staining and electric microscopy, the serum level of pAKT were detected by enzyme-linked immunoabsorbance assay,and the expression of p Akt protein in cortex was determined by the immunohistochemistry(IHC).Results: The HE staining shown that the neurons were more damaged along the time longed, while in the electric acupuncture group the neurons were less damaged and similar to the sham-operated group in 21 d group. The serum level of pAKT and p Akt expression in cortex increased in any extent and significant higher than that in model group at the same time(P<0.05). Conclusion: It is suggested that electric acupuncture could promote the neuronal repair after hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, which might be related to the more expression of pAKT.
