Objective : This article is aim to deeply comprehend borderline ovarian tumors(BOTs) by evaluating patients with borderline ovarian tumors in a single center. Methods : Clinical features, treatment and survival status of 72 patients with borderline ovarian tumors were retrospectively evaluated between March,2004 to October,2014 in Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine.Result:Patients' age was 46.4±17.3 years. Thirty patients(41.7%) were?40 years. 22(30.6%) of them were postmenopausal. 65.8% of patients with BOTs are asymptomatic. CA-125 and CA-199 levels were increased in 29(50 %) and 18(31 %) patients. The median sonographic dimension of serous and mucinous was80 mm and 185 mm respectively(p?0.001). 60(83.3%) patients had stage IA disease, 12(16.7%)were at stage II-IV. Histopathological diagnoses were serous, mucinous and mix-cell in 52.8%(38/72), 43.1%(31/72) and 4.1%(3/72) of the patients, respectively. The mean postoperative follow-up period was 51.4 months(range 3–126 months). Disease recurrence was seen in 6 patients indicating overall recurrence rate of 11.5 %. The overall survival rate was 98.1%.Conclusions : Patient with BOTs are younger, correctly preoperative classifying BOTs is difficult. But BOTs are mainly diagnosed at an earlier stage, and have a relatively great prognosis. Since BOTs can eventually recur or be aggressive, longterm follow-up is essential. Surgery with proper staging is the cornerstone of treatment. Recurrence in is noted more often after conservative treatment, but it needs continued follow-up to detect whether it affects survival period.
