Objective:Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(UKA) is mainly applies to treat the unicompartmental osteoarthritis. We aim to observe the short-term efficacy of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(UKA) in treatment of isolated medial compartment arthritis.Method: 26 cases(28 knees) were performed by unicondylar knee arthroplasty with single compartmental knee disease in the hospital from December 2013 to September 2015.0 males, 26 female(28 knees). The mean age of the cohort was 65 years(56 to 77), and the average weight was 68Kg(54-82Kg).We assessed the treatment effects by recording the Hospital for special surgery score(HSS), range of motion(ROM), femoral-tibial angle(FTMA) and the X-ray of knee joint and the full-length radiograph of the lower limbs were taken preoperatively and postoperatively, recorded the satisfaction of patient in the final follow-up. The data in the form of mean value with standard deviation and statistical assessment of the scores between both cohorts were analyzed using t-text.Results:All patients were followed up for 6-24 months, average 16.5 months. The average HSS score was improved from 59.28±7.383 preoperatively to 88.70±7.680 points in the final follow-up(P <0.01). The range of motion: mean 95.5±8.432 preoperative, while mean 120.5±5.684°of the postoperative(P<0.01)the differences were statistically significant(P <0.01). The mean pre- and post-operative femoro-tibial mechanical alignment(FTMA) angle were 6.5±6.751° and 1.5±3.652° respectively(P<0.01).Cases of twenty knees(71.4%) showed extreme satisfaction, five(17.8%) showed satisfaction while three(10.7%) showed dissatisfaction and none showed extreme disfaction. Cases with BMI>32kg/m2 showed no difference in results of HSS. None of patients suffered from prosthetic loosening, displacement and osteolysis. In the final follow-up we had not observed progression of osteoarthritis in the lateral compartment and patellofemoral degenerative. Conclusion: The findings show that, with reasonable indications selection of surgery, the unicompartmental knee arthroplasty is an effective treatment for unicompartmental osteoarthritis of knee joint and.It has fewer complications, restoring the proper limb alignment, achieved excellent short-term clinical efficacy.
