Ancient Literature Research On Treatment Of Pharyngitis With Acupuncture And Moxibustion

Objective: Retrieve the literature about acupuncture treatment of pharyngitis in ancient medical books, analyze the regulation of prescription and acupoint selection in treating pharyngitis systematically and summarize the high-frequency acupoints, which can provide the basis of acupoint selection and theoretical support for clinical research and treatment.Methods: Retrieve the Encyclopaedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine in computer and select the related literature in the part of acupuncture ? massage and moxibustion.Replenish and revise the literature about acupunture treatment of pharyngitis by hand. Establish the database after completing the standardization of data processing and make a statistical analysis with Microsoft Excel.Results: The amount of related prescriptions is 313 and there are 214 prescriptions which are composed of only one acupoint. In the 114 prescriptions which we can figure out the treatment method,there are 57 prescriptions using the method of acupuncture. When it comes to the 129 acupoints, 123 of them are in the Fourteen Meridians and 5 of them are extra-acupoints,while apart of the above is 1 A-shi point.In the 123 points of the 14 meridians,80 acupoints are specific points and 43 not. There are 29 acupoints in the head and neck, 14 acupoints in the thorax and abdomen, 7 acupoints in the back and 45 acupoints in the upper limbs while 34 points in the lower limbs..Conclusion: In the ancient, most doctors liked to choose one single acupoint to treat pharyngitis and use the acupuncture method most frequently. The acupoints in the Hand-Yangming,Hand-Taiyin,Foot-Shaoyin and Meridian of Foot-Yangming are used more frequently. Most acupoints are located in the limbs and head and neck. Among the specific acupoints, doctors paid more attentions to the Five-Shu point, the Yuan-Source point and the Eight Confluent points. According to the using frequency, the top ten acupoints are Shaoshang(LU 11),Zhaohai(KI 6),Hegu(LI 4),Tiantu(RN 22),Rangu(KI 2), Yongquan(KI 1),Zhongzhu(SJ 3),Taichong(LR 3),Chize(LU 5),Fenglong(ST 40).
