Objective:To summarize the theories, methods and research designs of the moxibustion allevting bone marrow suppression in breast cancer chemotherapy and analysis the advantages and disadvantages of published researches,in order to give advices for clinical research in the future. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on moxibustion in bone marrow suppression in cancer patients and to systematically and safety of moxibustion for bone marrow suppression in breast cancer chemotherapy. After that we conducted a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness safety of mild moxibustion managing bone marrow suppression induced by chemotherapy in breast cancer patients.Methods:Meta-analysis:according to the PICOS principle, we searched the literature using 6 databases from their inceptions to 2016,who writtern by Chinese or English. We included randomised clinical trials in which moxibustion was employed as an adjuvant treatment for patients on bone marrow suppression induced by chemotherapy. The selection of studies, data extration, and validation were performed independently by two reviewers.Clinical research:According to the principle of randomized controlled trials (RCT) to design the trial, all patients come from the third affiliated hospital of Harbin medical university.Sixty breast cancer patients who treated with chemotherapy were randomly divided into two groups, each group has 30 cases, there was no significant difference in age, chemotherapy regimen and KPS scores between two groups (P>0.05). After the treatment, We collected blood cell analysis and KPS score, liver function test and renal function test data for statistical analysis.Result:Meta-analysis:six RCTs compared the effects of moxibustion with conventional therapy.Six RCTs showed favourable effects of moxbustion for leucopenia (MD= - 1.28,95% CI[- 1.73, -0.83], P<0.00001). Two RCTs showed favourable effects of moxbustion for granulopenia (MD=-1.39,95% CI[-2.22,-0.57] P=0.0009<0.05).Four RCTs showed favourable effects of moxbustion forthrombocytopenia(MD=-15.81,95% CI[-30.41,-1.21], P=0.03<0.05). Four RCTs showed favourable effects of moxbustion fordecreased hemoglobin (MD= - 6.04,95% CI[- 8.39, -3.70], P<0.00001).Clinical study:Compared with blood contrast of two groups we can find that there is statistical significance (P< 0.01)with white blood cells after 8 days, and so is the KPS scores (P<0.01).Conclusion:Meta-analysis:The evidence is suggest moxibustion is an effective supportive treatment in bone marrow depression because of chemotherapy. However, all studies has poor quality and sample size.Further research is required to investigate more rigorous, long-term follow-up of large sample RCTs.Clinical research:Compared with conventional adjuvant therapy, Moxibustion have a better effect to improve the bone marrow suppression, which through stimulating and protecting the bone marrow hematopoietic function to enhance white blood cells and to improve the quality of life.It does not increase the risk of adventurce of drug reactions. Afterall, the effectiveness of mild moxibustion on bone marrow suppression induced by chemotherapy for breast cancer is accuratily and safety.
