Objective: Professor Ji Zhongqiang is the fifth batch of national famous traditional Chinese medicine experts engaging in the integrative Chinese and western medicine for more than 30 years, especially experienced in treating cardiovascular diseases, embolic diseases and other kinds of diseases of internal medicine with special characteristics in syndrome differentiation and prescriptions. This study aimed to analyze Prof. Ji Zhongqiang's syndrome differentiation patterns and prescription rules in treating primary hypertension(vertigo) to summarize his academic thoughts and clinical experiences so as to inherit the Chinese medicine expert's experiences.Methods: This paper is divided into two parts. The first part is the review including: the introduction about Prof. Ji Zhongqiang, the clinical experience summary in treating primary hypertension. The second part is the study on syndrome differentiation rules in treating primary hypertension. 101 outpatients were selected as the objective. Databases of the symptoms, diagnosis, prescriptions and medicines were built up to carry out the statistical analysis such as: the frequency analysis, factor analysis and cluster analysis and summarize Prof. Ji Zhongqiang's experiences in syndrome differentiation patterns and prescription rules in treating primary hypertension by using Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Support System.Results: The five common syndromes of primary hypertension were found through this study including: kidney deficiency with blood stasis, hyperactivity of liver-yang, integrative phlegm and blood stasis, liver qi stagnation transforming into fire, qi deficiency with blood stasis with the characteristics of intermingled deficiency and excess, close relationship with the liver and kidney, the common blood stasis. Prof. Ji Zhongqiang applied treatment methods of suppressing liver yang, soothing the liver qi to alleviate depression, softening the liver qi to harmonize the blood, calming the liver wind, nourishing the kidney and promoting the blood circulation, tonifying qi and promoting blood circulation, etc. The prescription rules were summarized by data mining.Conclusion : This study summarized Prof. Ji Zhongqiang's academic thoughts and clinical experiences in treating primary hypertension(vertigo). Cases of primary hypertension were analyzed based on Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Support System which reflected Prof. Ji Zhongqiang's experiences in syndrome differentiation patterns and prescription rules in treating primary hypertension. This study would benefit to the Chinese medicine academic inherence and the future clinical and scientific work.
