objective: Through analyzing the book Shan Jia Qing Gong which was completed in Emperor Li zong of the Southern Song Dynasty to explore the health preservation with food and dietetic therapy under the traditional Chinese medicine horizon. Methods: By applying literature research method and cross-disciplinary method to analyze the medical background during writing the book. To contrast the description of a same material between Shan Jia Qing Gong and many other ancient herbalism works respectively, and to compare the efficacy between Shan Jia Qing Gong and modern pharmacological experiment. To gather the frequency statistics of the traditional Chinese medicine which were used in the recipe of Shan Jia Qing Gong. Results: a total of 28 recipes show the explicit efficacy, which are similar with the other authoritative herbalism works, and vinegar is the most frequently used spices,ginger is the most frequently used Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine that have metaphorical significances were used frequently, such as plum, chrysanthemum, bamboo shoot, etc. Conclusion: Shan Jia Qing Gong convey a life attitude of light diet, free-from-vulgarity manner and few desires, through combining the health preserving with food and dietetic therapy and metaphorical significances of Chinese medicine to create a new aesthetic model, which is in accordance with the Chinese aesthetics and values.
