Background Under the category of "Vertigo", "phlegm" in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Meniere's disease is an inner ear disease, with the clinical manifestations of recurrent vertigo, sensorineural deafness, tinnitus, and ear fullness as a tetralogy. Recently, research have shown that the incidence rate of Meniere's disease is on the rise, however there is a blank of etiological treatment because the disease etiology and pathogenesis is not yet clear. The disease is often trend to have repeated attacks after symptomatic approaches, and is often have sequelae including: heavy head, dizziness, nausea, cold sweat and other Vasovagal symptoms, interrupting the patient's work and life to a certain extent. However, the curative improvement of Chinese medicine 's overall recuperation for the above conditions is confirmed by clinical proving. With the gradually perfected Syndrome Differentiation of TCM, the National Higher planning materials TCM colleges and universities in the new century(second edition), Internal Medical of Science have five major categories, including stagnation of phlegm, excessive of the liver-yang, deficiency of liver and kidney, deficiency of qi and blood. Object of this study is patients with stagnation of phlegm, by combine the standard treatment and traditional Chinese medicine, and observing the patient's improvement tetralogh of dizziness, ear fullness, etc., aiming to discuss the influence of Chinese medicine, and to explore its TCM etiology and pathogenesis.Purpose The purpose is to observe the clinical effect on Meniere's disease using traditional Chinese Banxiabaizhutianma soup and Zexie soup based on the standard treatment, and to compare with the clinical effect using only Western Medicine, to finally discuss the difference caused by the involvement of the TCM.Method Random digits table was taken to divide the 76 cases of stagnation of phlegm Meniere's disease from the clinic department of Henan Hospital of TCM, into combined therapy of Chinese and Western group and Western Medicine group after hospitalization, with each group of 38 people. Control group take conventional Western medicine treatment, while the test group takes the conventional western medicine based and the Banxiabaizhutianma soup and Zexie soup, by observing and analyzing the dizziness handicap inventory,DHI, from 14 days before and after the treatment and 3 months after the end of the treatment, and visual analog score(VAS) to compare the effect.Result Enrolled 76 patients, experimental group completed 38 cases and the control group completed 38 cases. Firstly, there is no statistically significance on gender and age. Secondly, two groups of patients have no statistically significance before treatment on visual analog score(VAS), and DHI scale statistical data have no statistically significance. There is no significant difference on the tetralogy of dizziness and ear fullness and quality of life between the two groups of patients before treatments, indicating that the same baseline of the two groups. Thirdly, the statistics of the treatment group and control group from the 14 days before and after the treatment and 3 months of tetralogy VAS score and function and quality of life assessment DHI scores has statistical significance, thus proving both combined therapy of Chinese Medicine and Western medicine and Western medicine can make improvement on the symptoms of acute vertigo, somatic sensory, emotional and social aspects. Fourthly, the statistics on tetralogy of dizziness and ear fullness and quality of life on the 14 th day of the treatmenthave no significant difference. Patients in both the experimental group and control group have improvements after the treatments, indicating there is no statistical significance on the curative effect. Finally, the follow-up statistics 3 months after the treatment have significant differences. The experimental group using combined therapy has better curative effects than the control group using Western Medicine in 3 month after the treatment. Conclusion The two treatment groups at day 14 of treatment show no significant difference in efficacy, indicating that the two treatment methods are both quite effective. While follow-up after the treatment ended 3 months found that Western medicine combined with TCM soups can effectively reduce the frequency of recurrence of the dizziness, improve the quality of life of the patients, and improve long-term prognosis. Meantime combined therapy better curative effective at improving the stagnation of phlegm Meniere's disease ear Fullness, dizziness and other symptoms. Combined therapy of Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine towards stagnation of phlegm Meniere's disease have better efficacy in quality of life, function and other aspects of life in long term than western medicine control group.
