ObjectivesTo understand the reason why patients with polycystic ovary syndrome have low compliance. We establish an internet platform(We Chat group) for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, to improve the compliance of them through peer education, and then promote disease outcome. MethodsThis study included two stages. The first stage was qualitative study. Qualitative research was taken by interviewing eleven patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome about their compliance to health education. Using phenomenological methods to analysis the interview data, and then developed viable options to improve compliance base on the result. The second stage was quantitative study. 82 patients with polycysic ovary syndrome from March to April 2015 were randomly devided into two groups, 41 cases in each group. All the patients measured height, weight, sex hormones and filled PCOS Lifestyle Scale when they came to gynecology clinic the first time and three months later. Based on the same medical treatment, control group received regular education, beside this, treatment group communicated with each other through WeChat. After 3 months, using scales to compare the compliance of the two groups, using six indicators of sex hormone to compare the healing effects. All data were entered and analyzed by IBM SPSS 20.0, test level?=0.05.Using rate to describe the referral condition, using x±s to describe patients' age, BMI, sex hormone level and scores of scales. Using ?2 test to compare the referral rate, using t test to compare patients' age, BMI,sex hormone level and scores of scales. Results1.In quantitative study, four types of factors that may affect compliance were reached: personal factors, social factors, medical factors, treatment factors. Patients were more likely to be impacted by their relatives, friends, and people with the same disease, so we hoped to enhance their compliance through Peer Education.2.A total of 82 patients were included in intervention studies(41 cases in each group), before the intervention, the two groups were not statistically different in age, height, weight, education level, type of payment, BMI, sex hormone levels and life styles(P>0.05).3.After three months, 73 patients referral,in which the intervention group of 38 patients(92.7%), the control group of 35 patients(85.4%). Medication compliance of the intervention group was(6.39±1.35) points, which was higher than control group,(5.37±1.06) points. After intervention, the lifestyle scale scored better than before in the two groups, but intervention group were higher than control group in eating rhythm, sports consciousness and content of the diet(P<0.05), and the other two dimensions scored no significant difference.4.After three months, BMI of the two groups all decreased, intervention group decreased by(0.42±0.38) kg/m2, control group decreased by(0.12±0.22) kg/m2, intervention group decreased more(P<0.05). LH, FSH, LH/FSH of the two groups had no difference after intervention(P>0.05), T decreased in the two groups, intervention group decreased by(0.41±0.11) ng/ml, control group decreaed by(0.29±0.31) ng/ml, intervention group decreased more(P<0.05). Conclusion1.Polycystic ovary syndrome patients' compliance are influenced by personal factors, social factors, medical personnel factors and treatment factors. We can develop further nursing methods to improve the compliance of the patients.2.Peer education can improve the compliance of taking medicine, improve eating rhythm, sports consciousness and content of the diet of the patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.3.The outcome of polycystic ovary syndrome can be improved through Peer Education.
