Objective: The study tries to understand the needs about health services of middle-aged men in urban of Kaifeng,in order to meet the higher pursuit of health servies and to provide better supply.Thus, it could provide the basis for the development of the health services in Kaifeng city.Methods: Middle age male residents in Kaifeng urban area were studied and questionnaire were used as a m ain research method. In t he first s tage, the indexes of subjects' demographic characteristics and health service needs were constructed by analyzing the factors of their demographic characteristics and health care related areas in reference study. In the next stage, according to the index system, questionnaire was made. The data collected in the following shunhe district, gulou district, longting district, yuwangtai district and urban-rural integration a were processed by SPSS for the ana lysis of the subject's demands of health service demand and the correlation between their demographic characteristic and the locations of health service demand. Descriptive Statistics, T test, F test and X2 tests were utilized.Results: 1. By the analysis of the health service demands, middle-aged men in Kaifeng City high tends to require a higher quality of health care services. However, their understanding for health tourism, health insurance, health sports professional guidance service are relatively poor. Meanwhile, their passive consumption on health care is more than subjective consumption. 2. In Kaifeng urban area, the needs of health care vary significantly with different subject's demographic characteristics:Age(F=26.36,P<0.001): Race(F=13.25,P<0.001): More M anchu subjects(27.16?1.32) required a better health care system in contract with Hui people, who have the lowest demanding(14.94?0.51). Occupation(F=57.87,P<0.001): subjects works in party organizations and government required have a higher demands(24.00?5.35). Unemployed subjects have a lower demands(13.2?1.14). Education(F=325.26,P<0.001): the demand level increase with subjects' education level. Marriage(F=83.77,P<0.001): a higher needs of married subjects for health care was observed(21.78?5.64) compared with the rest. Occupation related with health care service(t=6.17,P<0.001): subjects worked in the areas related with health care service were found to be more care about better health care service. Family number(F=215.67,P<0.001): the subjects lives with more families were found to require a better service however the level slightly decreased when the family numbers exceed 5. Income(F=423.39,P<0.001): subjects who earned 5000 to 9999 is more care about health care system(26.14?1.66). In contrast, the lowest level(13.30?0.87) was observed in subjects with low incomes 500 to 999. Financial status(F=504.85,P<0.001): the highest score(25.94 ?1.63) was shown in the subjects with average financial status. Poorest subjects were f ound to relatively require less for t he health care system(15.03 ?2.29). Expenditure on health care(F=57.18,P<0.001): subjects with monthly expenditure between 1000 to 1999 on health care have a higher desire of better healthy care services(26.97?0.65). The groups below 200 showed the lowest score(16.11?2.67). Health condition: healthier subjects require poor health care service(24.03 ?0.83) compared with less health subjects(16.03?2.78). Chronic diseases(F=34.82, P<0.001); Number of c hronic diseases(F=19.14,P<0.001): subjects suffering two or more chronic diseases need better health care services. 3. There are significant differences(P<0.01) in subjects' education, professions, marriage conditions, month revenue, health conditions to first choices of the locations of recovering service, nursing service, traditional medicine health care and treatment service, exercise service, health related reference service, health consultant agencies, purchasing health care products.Conclusion:1. Age, race, profession, degree of education, marriage condition, employed in health care sector or not, number of fa milies, month revenue, financial condition, expense for health care, health condition, chronic diseases and ty pes may be considere d major factors af fecting middle-age males' requirements of health service demand in Kaifeng urban area; 2. Degree of education,profession, marriage condition, month revenue and health condition may be considered major factors affecting middle-age males be the first choice health care venues in Kaifeng urban area.
