Objective:To investigate the relationship of plasma Galectin-3 with the severity of coronary artery lesion (CAD) and prognosis of coronary artery disease patients by analysis the level of it in different types of CAD and the correlation between it and Gensini score, B-type brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE)Method:We collected patients who were treated in the cardiology department of Yuhuangding Hospital because of chest pain during July 2013 to March 2014, every patients were made a definite diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) according to the results of coronary angiography(CAG), the clinical manifestation, electrocardiogram and myocardial enzymeby. Fasting venous blood samples were obtained to detect the level of plasma Galectin-3 and BNP.40stable angina pectoris (A group),40 unstable angina pectoris(B group) and 40 acute myocardial infarction (C group) were selected from the 160 CAD patients randomly. Collecting 40 healthy subjects who did physical check-up from our physical examination center as control group (D group). Then evaluated the severity of coronary artery stenosis by Gensini score. We followed up the 120 CAD patients for 1 year and recorded the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).Results:1.Patients in coronary artery disease group had a higher plasma Galectin-3 levels compared to patients in control group while that in C group is higher than B group, B group were higher than A group, and A group were higher than control group. The difference among the four groups was statistically significant (p<0.01) beside C group and B group (p=0.197).2.In Spearman correlation analysis models, there was a positive correlation in the plasma Galectin-3 levels with Gensini score and BNP in our subjects.3.During a period of 1 year follow-up,15patients got MACE.Compared with no MACE group, patients in MACE group has a significantly higher (p<0.05) level of Galectin-3.4.Multivariable logistic regression models indicated that the plasma Galectin-3(OR=1.157, CI:1.047-1.279, p<0.01)?BNP (OR=1.010, CI:1.000-1.034,p<0.028) were significant predictor of poor prognosis.Conclusion:1. The plasma Galectin-3 levels in CAD patients was correlation with unstable plaque.2.The plasma Galectin-3 levels have a positive and statistically significant relationship with the severity of coronary artery lesion.3.Galectin-3 can promote the possibility and development of coronary atherosclerosis and ventricular remodeling.4. Higher level of plasma Galectin-3 may result to worst prognosis.
