Objective:By comparing the model,x-ray film and surface of the patient before and after treatment,we try to investigate the treatment outcome of Angle class ? patient with mandibular asymmetry by Tweed-Merrifield technology.Materials and methods:An Class ? patient with mandibular asymmetry was selected from Ortho Clinic in Jin Zhou distrait of Dalian in August 2013,who was 18 years old,Han nationality. The left face of this patient was fuller than the right one.Class I molar relationships on the left and class ? molar relationships on the right. The crowding of the maxillary arch was about 6 mm,and 5.5 mm in the lower.22,23,24,25,26 were crossbite. The patient was treated by extracting 15?25?34?44 and using Tweed-Merrifield technology. Results:The course of orthodontic treatment is 26 months.Pre-treatment and post-treatment changes shows: normal overbite and overjet were achieved;the left molar relationship were maintained and the right molar relationship were changed into almost class I;Good occlusal relationship;Facial symmetry.Top and bottom line were consistent and FMA decreased about 1°.His lateral face is also changed. His Z angle had changed about 4 °and there was a counterclockwise rotation on mandibular plane. The changes between lateral cephalometric film showed: the vertical was under good control. The post-treatment panoramic radiograph shows no significant absorption on the roots, and alveolar bone and periodontal tissue were healthy. Conclusion:The treatment outcome of Class ? patient with mandibular asymmetry shows Tweed-Merrifield technology could be an effective and convenient way to chose.
