Objective: Periodontal diseases are found in the majority of the population worldwide.Periodontal diseases are considered to be the most common dental conditions. To treat periodontal disease effectively,a sequence of interrelated steps is necessary. The primary goal of initial periodontal therapy is to reduce the potential for progressive inflammation and recurrence of disease which is achieved by eliminating the burden of pathogenic bacteria.Initial Periodontal Therapy helps the tissue to respond more predictably to surgical procedures as treatment progresses during later appointments. In this thesis, concepts underlying Periodontal initial Therapy are reviewed and clinical cases of patients who underwent periodontal initial therapy are discussed. Methods and Materials: Periodontal initial therapy was performed on 6 patients respectively.History, probing depth and all other required examinations were obtained. Results: At the 4-week postoperative appointment, the surgical site appeared well and was free of inflammation.Pocket depth significantly reduced. The gingiva appeared healthy with natural-appearing contours, and the overall appearance was highly aesthetic. Conclusions: Periodontal initial therapy includes the initiation of a comprehensive daily plaque control regimen, thorough removal of calculus and microbial plaque,in many cases, periodontal initial therapy is the only set of procedure required to restore health,or it will constitute the preparatory phase for surgical therapy.
