Objective :To study the correlation between the change of the serum FT3 level in non-diabetic patients on maintenance hemodialysis and carotid artery atherosclerosis. Methods : Sixty-eight non-diabetic patients on dialysis in our hospital from August 2013 to April 2015 were chosen as the HD group, and 53 non-diabetic outpatients with chronic kidney disease at stage 2(CKD2 ~ 3)who underwent follow-up in Department of Nephrology during the same period as the control group. The electrochemical luminescence method and the immune turbidimetric method were applied to determine the level of serum albumin(Alb),hemoglobin(Hb),blood glucose(Glu),cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),c-reactive protein(CRP),thyroid hormone, blood calcium(Ca),serum phosphorus(P)and parathyroid hormone(i PTH);the color Doppler ultrasound method was used to determine carotid artery intima-media thickness(CA-IMT),which contributed to the calculation of the resistance index(RI).SPSS 19.0 software package was used for independent samples t test and the correlation analysis. And the correlation between the change of the serum FT3 level in non-diabetic patients on maintenance hemodialysis and carotid artery atherosclerosis was closely observed. Results :1 The average level of FT3 in non-diabetic patients on maintenance hemodialysis was 3.31±1.45pmol/l,significantly lower than that of the control group averaging at 4.19±1.42pmol/(P=0.000).The occurrence rate of thyroid dysfunction in non-diabetic patients on maintenance hemodialysis was higher, among which the most common one was low T3 syndrome.2 Through the univariate analysis, the associated risk factors with CA-IMT included FT3(r=-0.498,P=0.000),iPTH(r=0.310,P=0.020),Alb(r=0.360,P=0.006),RI(r=0.463,P=0.000),and no other factors were relevant.Through the multiple linear regression analysis,FT3 and RI were identified as independent risk factors being relevant to CA-IMT.Conclusion:1 The thyroid hormone level may change in non-diabetic patients on maintenance hemodialysis, with low T3 syndrome mostly common.2 FT3 and RI are independent risk factors which may play a role in the process of carotid artery atherosclerosis.
