Echocardiography is an important tool for the evaluation of function of heart clinically. We can not only estimate the cardiac activity by the 2-dimensional echocardiogram, but measure the values by M-mode(motion mode)echocardiogram using this method.M-mode echocardiography is a one-dimensional technique that employs a narrow,needle-like beam that is manually steered to image and record important cardiac structures. The high accuracy and repeatability of measured values in M-mode enable the measurements of cardiac structures.Diazepam belongs to benzodiazepine that is frequently used in veterinary for anticonvulsants, anesthesia induction and sedation.Because of its smaller effects on the cardiovascular system, diazepam is commonly used in the sedation for elderly animals and animals that have cardiovascular diseases. If sedation is employed during the echoechocardiography, the potential influence of the drug on heart rate, chamber dimensions, and ventricular motion must be considered in the interpretation. This study aimed to establish a preliminary standard to supply references to echocardiographic values in dogs in diffrerent grade of body weight by measure the echocardiographic values in healthy adult dogs, and to discuss the correlation of each value with body weight; And discus the influence in each echocardiographic value after the sedation.Experiment 1.the measurement of echocardiographic values in healthy dogs and the study of correlation between body weight and echocardiographic valuesMeasure the end-diastolic diameter(EDD),end-systolic diameter(ESD),interventricular septal thickness in diastole(IVSD),left ventricular free wall thickness in diastole(IVWD),E point to septal separation(EPSS),aortic root diameter(Ao),left atrial diameter(LA)through the long-axis 4 chamber view and long-axis LV outflow view from the right parasternal location in healthy adult dogs with the guide of two-dimensional echocardiogram. The result shows echocardiographic values in dogs were increased with the increasing of body weight,The linear regression analysis indicates significant at 0.001 level.Experiment 2.The influence on echocardiographic values after sedation by diazepam Measure the echocardiographic values in 6 healthy adult dogs before sedation by diazepam as the reference group, then compare with the echocardiographic values after 5 min,10 min,15 min,20 min,25 min,30 min,35 min and 40 min after sedation by diazepam.Analyze the statistics by one-way ANOVA with SPSS 15.0.The results as follows:The influence of sedation by diazepam to end-diastolic diameter(EDD)is significant at the 0.05 level after 15 min and the influence is significant at the 0.01 level after 40min;the influence to left ventricular free wall thickness in diastole(IVWD)and interventricular septal thickness in diastole(IVSD)is not significant;the influence to end-systolic diameter(ESD)is significant at the 0.05 level after 30 min,the influence to E point to septal separation(EPSS)is significant at the 0.05 level after 20min,25min,40min;the influence to aortic root diameter(Ao)is significant at the 0.05 level after 40min;the influence to left atrial diameter(LA)is significant at the 0.05 level after 20min and 40min.The result shows the mian effect of diazepam to echocardiographic values is the decrease of end-diastolic diameter(EDD).
