The roof greening can improve the rate of the green space of the urban area, if there is a large scale of roof greening in city, the dust and some other kinds of harmful gas in the air stagnation can be absorbed, and a place for leisure and walking beside working and studying will be provided to city residents too. Based on the investigation of the roof greening status in Nanchang, the problems existing in the roof greening of Nanchang are analyzed and the corresponding countermeasures which can provide reference for government decision making are putted forward in this paper. At the same time, the adaptability of the Camellia sinensis(L.) O. Ktze., Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum Yieh,Rhododendron simsii Planch., Pittosporum tobira(Thunb.) Ait, Acer buergerianum Miq.and Acer palmatum Thunb these six kinds of plants that are used in roof greening to provide a theoretical basis for the selection of roof greening plants in Nanchang.(1) The roof greening of Nanchang city mainly concentrated in the office building,residential areas, shopping plaza and public green space, thickness of the overlying soil in30-100 cm, mainly in red loam soil matrix. Application in Nanchang City roof greening plants are total in 112 species, mainly distributed in 52 families and the shrubs are the most common be used, the vines is the least, the plants that are used most frequently focus on 30 species.(2) Compared with the cities in China or foreign country which are working better in roof greening, Nanchang started to construct the roof greening very late and developed in a really slowly speed, besides these problems Nanchang is also fettering with the problems like that lacking of professional and technical guidance and financial support, the forms that the plants be applied and collocated are very simple, the most important is that the work of maintenance is be neglected. Therefore, we must emphasis on each link of roof greening, from the choice of suitable plants for roof greening, finding a reasonable layout for plants, strengthening prevention and drainage, regular maintenance and correct guidance.(3) Adaptive experiment for these six kinds plant materials for roof greening’s results show that the Pittosporum tobira(Thunb.) Ait is the strongest one in heat resistance, then the Rhododendron simsii Planch., Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum Yieh and Acer buergerianum Miq. are also working well in heat resistance, the Camellia sinensis(L.) O.Ktze. and the Acer palmatum Thunb are the weakest in heat resistance. The evergreen plants which play best in cold tolerant is the the Pittosporum tobira(Thunb.) Ait, the Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum Yieh and the Rhododendron simsii Planch.played well in cold tolerant too, the Camellia sinensis(L.) O. Ktze. is the weakest one among the evergreen plants.
