Underground Bands' Music Activities And The Urban Space Of Wuhan

In the 1980 s,with the process of domestic reform and opening up,novelty from all over the world began to flood into the daily life of modern youths.Different from their father generation,they grow their own spiritual world with more unconventional demands,and their daily lives become more diversified.Based on the cultural background,the “underground band” flourish silently.This is a group of people who are extremely keen on music and they practice music in the form of band.Although comparable to professional musicians in quality or potential,they fail to drawn attention because of the relatively minority style of music and other reasons.In addition to spending time engaging in music activities,they often have to rush for their livelihoods.In recent years,the group of "underground band" has grown large in scale.As one of the city that has the largest number of underground band in China,the Wuhan city witnesses numerous underground band's music activities,which forms a very important and influential cultural phenomenon in Wuhan with deep impact.As part of the lifestyle for young generation,underground bands' music activities are reflected in their understanding,use and perception towards urban space,which slowly affects its shaping and production.In this paper,the urban space related to the music activities of the underground band in Wuhan City is taken as the object being studied.Three cases are selected.Firstly,the macro-view and the middle-scale view are discussed.The micro-spatial form and human activities before and after the music performance are also analyzed.Secondly,the space atmosphere during underground bands' music activities is studied.Finally,through the horizontal comparison of the three cases,the author conducts more in-depth study from the aspects of " impact of urban space on the underground band music activities" and " impact of underground music activities on the urban space",which helps to re-understand the event as well as the interaction between people's behavior and urban space.The study provides reference for creating a dynamic urban space that embraces the future and meet the diverse needs of people.
