The impact of information and communication technology on the spatial atructure has been caused widespread concern by domestic and foreign scholars for three decades. The core content of information geography includes the relationship between network space and physical space, the transformation and reconstruction of physical space, which obtained rich research results. With the rapid development of ICT, the mobility strengthens the form of space of flows. The informatization level of residents has been significantly improved, thus the changes in patterns of behavioral activities enhance the mobility of urban residents. The connotation of urban space has been constantly enriched. The research perspevtive of spatial effect has been transformed from space into personal. And research focus on the impact of ICT on behavioral activities and physical function, and the resulting changes. But research does not consider urban virtual-physical spatial relevance caused by individual behavioral activities. From the aspects of both theoretical analysis and empirical study, this paper analyzes and proves that individual becomes micro-node in the urban network and the basic unit of social space. The spatial agglomeration of behavioral activities becomes link in urban virtual-physical spatial relevance. Individual behavioral activities build virtual-physical spatial relevance in the urban level, high-mobility population build in urban-regional level. And urban virtual-physical spatial relevance is an intrinsic mechanism for forming space of flows. Therefore, this paper breakthroughs the scope of traditional research of spatial structure, rationalizes the spatial logical relationship. The study helps to understand the role of residential activities on spatial relevance in the information era.In the theoretical research, this paper constructed urban virtual-physical spatial relevance based on the residential activities. First, social network theory, actor network theory, the space of flows theory and behavior-space theory becomeed main theory support for space research in information society. Those theories emphasize network logistic, and focus on the combined effect of actors and actans on the space. Second, the link between residential space, employment space, traffic space and network space becomed more and more closely. Spatial function connotation and physical space distribution was changed. Ubiquitous of ICT make the space of flows as outward manifestation of spatial relevance. Third, ICT directly and indirectly prompt the fundamental change of urban space. Meanwhile, ICT has a profound impact on the other factors. Traffic technology and ICT together constitutes the infrastructure of information society, which strengthens the flow of people, matter and information. Innovation factor and residential activities emphasizes personal wisdom and spatial sense through social practice. Fourth, this paper introduced the concept "geography relevance" into information geograpgy, and establishes spatial relevance. Based on space of places, spatial relevance emphasized the impact of residential mobility and informatization level on network space and physical space. And it concerned about the link between information needs, network space and space of places. Fifth, the organization of urban virtual-physical spatial relevance was considered by integrating four dimensions, urban residents, information technology and transportation technology, space, time. The spatial structure was built as "spot, line, area". Based on aboved analysis, we constructed evaluation framework about urban virtual-physical spatial relevance. In the empirical study, this paper obtained first-hand data through questionnaires, activity logs, GPS tracking technology, in-depth interviews, and creates database. Then we used SPSS statistical analysis, structural equation model, spatial-temporal GIS, agent based model to analyze the impact of residential activities on spatial relevance, and verify it. First, in the information society, residential activities proved that residential space, employment space, traffic space had important position and place significance. Because residents use ICT, home-work separation becomes more and more significant. Traffic space becomes the most frequent place in the spatial relevance. Second, the index of urban virtual-physical spatial relevance at the micro level includes the degree of information sharing, residents’information cognition, residents’ habit of information sharing, and mobility. Mobility was the most important metric in urban virtual-physical spatial relevance, followed by residents’information cognition, residents’habit of information sharing, and the degree of information sharing. The workplace is the most typical setting that demonstrates the close link between network and physical spaces. The workplace is embedded in cyberspace and enriches the perceived function of physical spaces. Third, because ICT and traffic technology lead to more significant fragmentation of activities, the flows of people, information, transportation based on high-mobility population build "new mobility paradigm". Thus, they contribute to spatial relevance in the urban-regional level. This paper intends divided into three parts, a total of six chapters. The fist part is the theoretical analysis, includes chapter one to three. The second part is the empirical study, includes chapter four to five. The third part is chapter six, the summary and discussion. |
