The most important disease that harms human health is malignancy.Its main treatment is surgery,radiotherapy and chemotherapy.In radiotherapy technology,Particle radiation therapy(Commonly known as C ions,protons,etc.)is a new technology that has better therapeutic efficacy than traditional photon radiotherapy.In particular,it provides a new choice to patients whose cancer can't be removed by Surgery or those who can't be treated by Surgical treatment.Proton heavy ion therapy for tumor exploration began in the 1950 s.Until,LLUMC(Loma Linda University Medical Center)and NIRS Completed the world's first proton therapy center in a hospital and the first Heavy-Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba(HIMAC)respectively in 1990 and 1994.Because of its unique characteristics and advantages in the treatment of cancer,it has been rapidly developed and widely used in the world.The particle treatment in our country started late.The exploration of proton heavy ion technology started in the 1990 s.Until 2015,China had the first proton heavy ion hospital that was formally operated.However,according to statistics,the number of proton-heavy ion accelerators in operation and proposed in China will be around 15 sets in the next few years.China will usher in the culmination of the construction and operation of particle accelerators.In China's current laws and regulations,medical proton heavy ion accelerators belong to Class I Radiation-emitting device in the classification of ray devices,which is of the highest level of radiation safety risk in radiation equipments.Its radiation field and pollution source have their own characteristics.At the same time,according to the relevant provisions of laws and regulations,the Ministry of Environmental Protection supervised the medical proton heavy ion accelerator.Due to the late start of medical proton heavy ion accelerator,shorter running time,less running instances,China has a slight deficiency in its regulatory experience.It is imminent to deeply study the medical Proton Heavy Ion Accelerator,to master its operating characteristics and radiation source terms,to summarize the difficulties in its supervision is imminent.In order to strengthen and standardize supervision and management,the Ministry of Environmental Protection has entrusted Northwest Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Stations to conduct research on proton-heavy ion accelerators and prepare revised technical procedures for supervision and inspection.The author took on the tasks of the project and organized and conducted a large number of investigations on Shanghai and Wuwei Medical Proton Heavy Ion Accelerators,and made deeply communication with the East China Monitoring Station,Consult the relevant industry experts,summarized the key issues in daily supervision,put forward their own thinking and solutions.Finally completed a "medical proton heavy ion accelerator monitoring and inspection procedures".The program passed the expert review.It has been submitted to the Ministry of Environmental Protection.This article also gives some suggestions on how to further promote the radiation safety supervision of medical proton heavy ion accelerators.
