The 5th census in November 2000 revealed that more than 10.2%of Chinese, about 130 million, were over age 60,which means that China had entered an aging society.More and more elderly confronted of many problems in using their kitchen, such as it’s difficult to fetch something in a high position and lay back it,the elderly’s motion was constrained,it’s not smooth to use the assistant facility and so on.Whereas, the survey, which focus on the interactive behavior between elderly and kitchen,on Elderly Suitable and Intelligent Kitchen Design(ESIKD)was still in its infancy. But its anticipated results has high utility value and considerable social benefits.First of all, considering the China’s status of aging population, the paper studied the research findings, which concerned on the ESIKD,from domestic and overseas. The self-care elderly, the elderly with walker and the elderly with wheelchair were selected as the object user.By studying on the characteristic of the interactive behavior between elderly and kitchen, the paper acquired the demand of object user and concluded the principle of ESIKD which was applied to a practical design. The second, the paper summed up the elderly’s characteristic, the meaning of interactive behavior and the principle and method of interactive design,on which the subsequent chapters were based.Next, explaining the conception of the ESIKD and analyzing its space composition, facility, operation and innovation function. And then, analyzing the kinematics result of 3 types of object user’s head and hand in different space such as storage(concluding wall cabinet and cabinet),washing, preparation and cooking, the paper acquired the interactive behavior data and concluded the design principle for different object user respectively. Finally, building an object user character and applying the method of ESIKD to design for the object user,in which the method was explained and expanded further.
