In the study of impact and penetration investigation,it is generally believed that the velocity and displacement can be obtained by one and twice integration of the measured overload signals. However, during these studies, many results show that the velocity and displacement obtained by the integration of acceleration overload signals have large deviation with the corresponding experimental measured values. But this kind of research is mostly concentrated at high and medium penetration speed, and it is rarely involved in low velocity impact and penetration.Based on experimental study method, this thesis analyzes four aspects, viz.acceleration sensor selecting, impact and penetration test platform building, impact and penetration testing, and free fall penetration experiments. This thesis includes two different ways of experimentation,to explore the acceleration overload signals of projectiles, measure the velocity of projectiles before and after penetration, and study the damage form of paper targets at low penetration speeds(<20 m/s).The overload characteristics of projectiles are studied,at the same time, the ballistic limit of projectiles penetrating paper targets with corresponding thickness is obtained based on the Wen’s semi empirical formula. The feasibility of low pass filtering method for overload signal in different processes is discussed. The feasibility of the penetration depth obtained by twice integration of acceleration overload signals in the process of low velocity penetration of paper targets is finally verified.
