Urban Design Method In Urban Fringe Region Under The Guidance Of Vine City Concept

Urbanization in China has reached its mid-later stage where transitions of corresponding strategies have occurred.As the most sensitive area,urban fringe planning has always been an ignored area by domestic scholars and experts alike who have regarded it as a minor area without giving a full consideration to its urban and rural duality.This paper,therefore,explores the urban design methods applicable to the growth of urban fringe areas in China based on the concept of vine city planning and design by Academician Cui kai.First,this paper reviews the theories and concepts in regard to urban fringe areas at home and abroad,defines their scope and characteristics,and illustrates the location and significance of such areas in urban construction.Focusing on spatial organization and expansion models,the paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of various models of urbanization in China.Next,based on a survey(or field study?)of urban fringe areas in some large cities of China,this paper sorts out the features of their rapid and large-scale expansion,looks into the problems in such areas,and analyzes the causes of problems.In particular,this paper analyzes the defects of the old city planning and design system that have badly affected the cities’ ecology,traffic,and construction,etc.The present study,moreover,suggests how to solve the existing problems in the current planning and design methods of vine cities in China on condition that such methods must comply with new strategies of urban fringe areas’ growth.Meanwhile,it summarizes the models of group and ecological layouts,pro-walking designs and step-by-step construction of vine cities in urban fringe areas.Based on the principles of city/town planning and designs,this study investigates deeper into appropriate town designs from urban scale,density,and boundary considerations,after which,the author suggests some feasible design methods.Also,through specific case studies,this study verifies the effectiveness and operability of some town designs.At last,the paper summarizes the conclusion that I have done in research,sorts out the most valuable parts of town design methods,and uses them as the conclusion of this research.Finally,this study reflects on the limitations of research methods and areas for future considerations.
