Due to the strict restrictions on daylighting and noise reduction in the primary and secondary schools building codes,the general layout of primary schools in China is dominated by an open and dispersed pattern with few breakthroughs in spatial organization and architectural morphology.This kind of spatial arrangement inevitably leads to the lack of communication spaces in primary school buildings,and reduces the potential advantages of students' unexpected encounters and intimate interactions,though it guarantees the physiological health of primary school students to some extent and the average distribution of material functions.In the last few years,some primary schools which had no intentions of following the rigid layout patterns have emerged in China.They tried to make a breakthrough in spatial organization and architectural morphology,and indeed,have created considerable public places between the indoor and outdoor spaces.So,as a starting point for the research,the thesis attempts to explores the essence of primary school architecture and analysis the essence of spatial organization based on the discussion of comparative case studies.The first part of the thesis analyzes and summarizes the spatial organization strategies which were successfully put forward by some representative primary schools with outstanding design of China,when facing stringent building codes.The second part attempts to reveal the potential danger in the method for summarizing school plans through exemplification and comparison,put forward a research method for seeking essential issues(study and entertainment),and discusses the three basic elements of spatial organization in a primary school.The third part discusses the relationships of three basic elements mentioned above through the method of case study,and analyzes the reasons for the differences of the spatial organization between domestic and foreign primary schools.The conclusion part review the whole thesis,recognition and introspection of the spatial organization in primary schools are put forward,so as to provide references for improving the quality of primary school buildings in China.
