The Artistic Techniques And Spatial Characteristics Analysis Of The Master-of-Nets Garden

Suzhou classical garden has an extremely important position in the Chinese garden,the artistic techniques and spatial patterns which contained quantitative relationship not only reflect the characteristics of Chinese literator landscape garden,but also valuable heritages.Further study of artistic techniques and spatial characteristics of Suzhou classical garden helps to explore the traditional and make the past serve the present.The combination of artistic techniques and spatial characteristics is the essential virtue of gardening,it is also the inexorable demand of the unity of the perceptual and the rational.In this paper,the central scenic area,the Peony Study(garden within garden),the Ladder cloud chamber(courtyard)and the Guqin room(courtyard)as the research object.Through the combination of qualitative and quantitative,perceptual and rational research methods,investigated the artistic techniques and spatial characteristics of the Master-of-Nets Garden,mainly studied:(a)layout of compositions in the central scenic area:buildings(38.5%),rocks(21.9%),water(20.2%),their ratio is 2:1:1,and the artistic techniques and spatial characteristics of literator landscape garden;(b)the artistic techniques and spatial characteristics of the Peony Study and the two courtyards.Explained:(a)characteristics of basic quantities in vision,proportion,scale and other aspects of the artistic features which gardening elements contained through suitable gardening practices;(b)layout,volume,level of spatial relation of garden elements and characteristics of real and surreal,rhythm,metre,image,light and shade related to the theme;(c)the artistic techniques and spatial characteristics of the Master-of-Nets Garden are consistent with the ancient Chinese garden theory,landscape painting theory and exterior space design theory,it also has an internal relation with the formal beauty theory,visual analysis theory,architecture and space design theory.The results show clearly that the artistic techniques and spatial characteristics of theMaster-of-Nets Garden have the meaning of inheritance and reference to modern landscape architecture.
