According to forecast of the United Nations Population Commission, the proportion of the aging population in the world will increase from 6.6% in 1995 to 9.3% in 2020,while in China the proportion will increase from 6.1% to 11.5%.Therefore,China has truly become one of the aging countries.Against this background, there are more social concerns about the elderly. They gradually become an "emerging force" in consumer market.Because of their social positions and their physical and mental characteristics, the time they spend at home increases. They thus encounter more difficulties and obstacles, which increases their demand for living aids accordingly.Currently,in the domestic consumer market for the elderly, various types of products have been greatly improved in comparison with the past, but they still fall far behind those in the developed countries. With the development of society and continuous improvement of the material living standards, the living quality of the elderly reflects the degree of the development of a country. Thus,it is an important and urgent task for us to design and develop more life supplies that especially useful for at the elderly. In this paper, the behavior and movement characteristics of the elderly in daily life were observed, studied and analyzed for the purpose of exploring their specific "pain points".The physiological and psychological characteristics are referred to as the theoretical basis for the research and development of assistance products.Besides, with the application of product design theories, research and practice were conducted in terms of product function, its safety,practicality,man-machine relationship, and environmental characteristics, etc.
