Study On Book Storage And Management Architectural Space Of Depository Library

Library is an important building of cultural communication and book storage,and it is also an important type of public cultural buildings.With the advent of the information age,the contemporary library is facing a serious contradiction between the rapid increasing number of documents and the shortage of land resources.The huge reserves of books need enough storage space and occupy a large area,so the dedepository library is the inevitable trend of the contemporary library in our country.As a new type of library in recent years,the depository library,is becoming increasingly popular,but the concern about the depository library design is relatively scarce.The research of the public library architecture design is often focused on form and space,whereas few researches are on the management space and book storage space among all the library functional spaces.This paper firstly traces the development of Western Library history and Chinese Library history,summing up 5 steps of the library storage and management space reveloution in the general context:1.pure unmixed storage space;2.management,circulation,storage,reading in the same space;3.open-shelf reading space and circulation;4.isolated functional spaces;5.blurred boundary spaces.The architectural space organization has experienced the change from the whole space to the combination of small spaces,and finally reaches a whole big space.This paper discusses the operation and management mode of the library under the influence of the information technology,and analyzes the changes of the librarian's and the reader's behavior.According to the changes of user behavior,the research is focused on functional spaces:retrieval space,reading space and circulation space,especially the storage and management space,discussing the space characteristics and design concerns of modern depository library and book storage and management space.This thesis demonstrates the similarities and differences in architectural design and management methods between traditional open-shelf library and depository library on the basis of Suzhou library and Suzhou No.2 library.It tries to clarify ASRS library's traits on management efficiency,land-saving,area utilization and space openness and draws three pinciples on depository library design.At last,this dissertation looks forward to the development trend of the library in the new century.
