In more than 10 years,the number of cars have been showing a blowout momentum.The improvement of the ownership gave birth to the production of auto parts industry as well as more repair parts industry.Some domestic companies put reverse engineering and rapid prototyping technology into auto parts manufacturing industry,compared with the traditional design and manufacturing efficiency,which is greatly improved,and significantly improve the core competitiveness of the market.Based on using the reverse engineering design technique,This paper deeply analyzes and researches the 3D point cloud acquisition of an automotive thermostat housing,the point cloud data processing,reverse modeling,error detection analysis and surface inspection of CAD model.This paper analyzes the acquisition method of data point cloud in detail.By analyzing the structure of the thermostat housing,combined with the actual experimental conditions in the laboratory,determining the appropriate acquisition measurement,the paper gathers the data of automotive thermostat housing by using VTOP200 C binocular 3D optical scanner(produced by a company).It also explains the theory of point cloud data merging technology,the principle and method of processing abnormal data in point cloud,hole-repairing,data smoothing and reduction.The paper pre-processes point cloud data on the thermostat housing by Geomagic Wrap software,discusses the typical theory and method of 3D reverse modeling,researches the method of inspection for reconstruction of the fairness of a surface.This paper has completed the reverse modeling on the thermostat housing by GeomagicDesignX software;It also tests and analyzes the error data on the reverse model with Geomagic Control in order to get accurate report data.According to the report analysis,the paper optimizes the reverse modeling model and acquires the reconstructed model of thermostat housing,which can satisfy the precision requirement.
