Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism has advantages of simplestructure, reliable located, steady transmission and accurate indexing.However, the working contour surface of Globoidal Indexing Cam is annon-developable surface in space. This characteristic makes it difficultto design and processing. The theory of reverse engineering is a newdesign method of Globoidal Indexing Cam. This paper collects surfacedata of Globoidal Indexing Cam using3D-laser scanner, obtained3Dmodel of Globoidal Indexing Cam based on Surface Reconstructiontechnique, detected3D model and researched the development ofsubsequent application.This paper includes a few aspects:1.Comparative study on digital measurement system, analyzed theadvantages and disadvantages of contact measuring and non-contactmeasuring, completed data collecting of Globoidal Indexing Cam.2.Researched methods to treat data cloud, analyzed several usefulmethods of Filter Method and data cloud rightsizing, summarizedcharacteristics of data processing and basic requirements of dataprocessing.3.Analyzed characteristics of tradition curved surface modelingand rapid curved surface modeling, obtained interpolating andapproximation of curve or curved surface, gave parameterizationmethod of useful curves and curved surfaces, explored a way to finishthe process of reconstruct NURBS curved surface of Globoidal IndexingCam by using Geomagic Studio.4.Discussed evaluation standard of fairness of models, gaveseveral methods to analysis the Fairness of models, detected3D modelof Globoidal Indexing Cam by using Geomagic Qualify, obtained the result of model evaluation.5.Founded assembled model of Globoidal Indexing CamMechanism and analyzed interference using Pro/ENGINEER. Finishedmotion simulation and obtained velocity curve of driven disk usingADAMS. The rationality of Globoidal Indexing Cam reconstructsmethod and the feasibility of model applications were verified throughthese applications.There are three innovative points:1.Using revise engineering into research of Globoidal IndexingCam, mentioned a new design method, effectively cut the design cycleof Globoidal indexing cam2.Using Geomagic Qualify to test reconstruct model and pointcloud, mentioned a testing method of revise model, it can be used to testall reverse model.3.Research applications of Globoidal Indexing Cam model,practical utility and rationality are tested by using simlulation ofGloboidal Indexing Cam and Cam follower, it provide a reference toother research.
