Road vehicles provide enormous benefits to human activities by facilitating movement of goods and people at a faster rate than what animal and human energies could offer.However,road vehicles tend to claim quite a number of lives in accidents which seems to defeat the objective for their manufacture.Vehicle design engineers over the years have made frantic efforts in improving car safety to minimize fatalities during crashes.Studies have revealed that most projects of such caliber usually due to lack of proper planning and execution end up with over spending budget and using long time without achieving their objectives.Recognizing the seriousness of car safety improvement projects,this thesis sought to apply proven project management tools and techniques such as Work Breakdown Structure(WBS),Responsibility Matrix(RM),Gantt chart,PERT chart,CPM as well as computer softwares such as Microsoft Project and the WBS Pro in planning.This work identified the tasks,determined the responsibilities of project team members,worked out the time schedule for the CSIP,and successfully reduced the total project time from 497 days to 430 days.This will improve the project efficiency and meanwhile save time and cost.
