The concept of building information modeling(BIM)first originated in the United States.Recently,BIM technology with its visualization,coordination,simulation,optimization,integration,parametric,information completeness and other advantages,has become the focus of the construction industry at home and abroad.A lot of corresponding researches have been done by foreign and domestic scholars,and lots of examples could prove that BIM model system increases the efficiency of design both in the architectural design and construction stage.However,the application and development of BIM technology still need further promoted.In this paper,Revit Structure,a kind of the core modeling software of BIM,is taken as an example.The new structural modeling method named as “top-to-bottom” is proposed based on the modeling order,and the procedure is defined.The modeling efficiency of new method is compared with the past one under different circumstances.And according to the analysis result of 30 decision making units by using DEA Model,applicable conditions,operation process and pertinent suggestions of how to choose the modeling method is given.In order to improve the efficiency of modeling,this paper has a research on the information given by the software in the process of structural modeling.Methods of how to distinguish the harmful information is proposed based on Logit regression model.The treatment and preventive measures of the warnings and how to optimize operation process by utilizing favorable prompting are also proposed by numbers of instances.Many kinds of software are needed to complete different stages of a large scale building design work.In this paper,the functions of exchanging data between modeling software and computing software are tested.More than 60 models are tested by the three different data exchanging methods.And according to the results of quantitative comparison,the corresponding suggestions of selecting an appropriate method according to the use of BIM models are given.Finally,taking a double-layer spherical reticulated shell roof structure with an irregular boundary of Jizhou gym in Tianjin as an example,using new modeling method to complete the BIM model,this paper proves the feasibility of the two methods of data exchanging.The information model is used in different fields,such as curtain optimization,engineering calculation,construction simulation and collision detection.This paper affords a new way to apply BIM technology in large scale steel structures.
