The Province of Zhejiang has a geographic characteristic that is so called as“seven tenths of mountain with one tenth of water and two tenths of field”,which makes mountainous region a significant place in the dwelling of residents since antiquity for such a place where is lack of flatlands resources. In the previous announced three lists of Chinese Traditional Villages, the number of selected villages in Zhejiang ranks the third among the whole country.Because of their unique mountainous environment, social and economic structure, cultural and historical resources as well as the traditional form they present,Mountainous traditional villages are irreplaceable in terms of the village appeal and research value. As the speeding up of urbanization in China, concentrating more on the urban area while relatively ignoring the rural development rises the current binary opposition between cities and villages. On the one hand, traditional villages, especially those in mountainous area are now undergoing economic underdevelopment with endless problems such as the “hollowing out” of villages, the “damages to physical space and form” and the “obstruction to the inheriting of immaterial culture”.Mountainous traditional villages are experiencing fierce impacts and it is in extreme urgency to undertake the preservation and renovation. On the other hand, during the current construction of new-age villages, either the methodology that “remove mountainous traditional villages to newly-built ones in plain ” according to the policy of “returning the building site to forestry” or the polarized two strategies that “plan villages in modern uniformity” or “simply duplicate the traditional form” ignores the original features of mountainous traditional villages, thus leading their development to a state filled with contradiction and confusion. How to conform the trend of times on the condition of contemporary social and economic status while exploring the starting point combined with village evolution in history in order to preserve and renovate the traditional villages lies at the core of our age within the research on the “preservation and renovation strategies of mountainous traditional villages”.In this paper, the research object is Songyang Tanghou village which is a typical mountainous traditional village selected in the third batch of ‘Traditional Chinese Villages Catalog'.First of all, summarize and analyze the current situation of village space characteristics and problems based on the field study;Secondly, induce the revelation for the preservation and renovation of Tanghou village through case comparative analysis and strategy general summary based on the study on the development problems, solutions and results of Successful development model of Zhejiang typical mountainous traditional villages;Based on this, put forward the "industrial conversion " as the breakthrough point to the preservation and renovation of Tanghou village, then localization development theme and urban-rural industry through the development of the regional policy background, resources, market analysis and SWOT analysis;Thirdly, the principle of the preservation and renovation of Tanghou village is put forward, and the village integrated layout, boundary integral layout space, the street pattern, public Spaces, village landscape preservation and renovation strategy is put forward; Finally, the paper puts forward to create building protection mechanism, maintain the traditional architectural characteristics and reconstruction the building functional space strategy under the guidance of the principle of the preservation and renovation of the architecture.Hope that this paper can give beneficial guidance to the preservation and renovation of Tanghou village, meanwhile, provide the reference for the preservation and renovation of same-type Zhejiang mountainous traditional village.
