Mountainous area takes up two thirds of China's overall area. In Zhejiang province, there is an old saying, "seven mountain, one water, two rice field". Zhejiang province has rich mountainous resources and limited plane fields, so the mountains have been important human habitats since ancient history. As the development of Chinese economic, improvement of people's living standard, transition of village production pattern and change of life style, a lot of mountain settlements have started or will start large-scale adjustment and renovation. Regarding a new round of village renovation, prevention is better than cure. How to create a practical method, providing guidance to village renovation, ensuing a high starting point and correct direction from feasibility research phase to planning and design phase, is the most important problem at hand. The paper is based on the contradiction involved in the renovation of settlements and context reservation in new rural construction, trying to make an organic renewal and establish an industrial-and-residential complex dwelling pattern in the plan and design of Baiyunshan village in Pan'an County Zhejiang Province, which is on the basis of its mountainous scene and regional characteristics, to meet its needs of living and industry development.Based on the mixed-living pattern, we summarized usual types of buildings and entrances as basic construction elements for mountainous architecture, came up with the most representative mountainous architecture prototypes, which are called "basic architecture unit". We used those prototypes into actual scenarios, readjusted and modified them till perfection, made them adapt to the local conditions, and eventually fit into complicated mountainous topography. This paper focuses on experimenting on mountain settlement renovation method, and providing useful advice and reference to large-scale Chinese mountain settlements.
