To capture the airline market growth in China, there is a need of reevaluating the physical cabin design, especially when most of the airplanes available now are designed by and to westerner anthropometry.Designing for comfort is taken as the ground principle for the entire study.Four evaluation processes were done(expert opinion,CAD simulation, prototype experiment and EMG experiment)where the focus of the evaluation pointed to the height of the stowage bin.It is desirable to study the optimum height of the stowage bin that will maximize the tradeoff between the physical accessibility of the bin height and the passenger comfort experience regarding the safety clearance area. The result showed that the lowest height of the stowage bin still accommodate the tallest passenger that seated below it,even if it violates the psychological allowance. The lowest height is preferable when it comes to minimizing the muscle activity and maximizes the ease of accessing the stowage bin. When it comes to the subjective feeling of the passenger, the highest height of the stowage bin is preferable. Therefore to mediate these two options, the middle design is the most preferred height by the subjects as it gives the feeling of safe and easiness of accessing the stowage bin.
