The onboard flame arrestor,which can prevent the flame propagation and spread effectively and earn more evacuating time for passengers and crew,has been widely applied into the aircraft ventilation system.A detail design and test method based on airworthiness standard of onboard flame arrestors were investigated in this paper.The main works and results are:1.Nine different constructions of onboard flame arrestors were surveyed,and their flow performances were calculated.The results show that the performace of Crimped ribbon,Metallic honeycombs and Cellular ceramics types are better than that of other types of flame arrestors.2.The theoretical calculation method,based on theories of the heat conservation and boundary layer,and the empirical calculation method based on experiments were summarized to obtain the quenching diameter.A mathematical model of the burning process was set up via the infinitesimal method to calculate the element length.Then,the calculating result was compared with experimental data published on relevant literatures to prove its validity.3.Based on the calculation method mentioned above,the influence on the quenching diameter caused by the flame propagation speed,the flame temperature,the flame pressure,temperature and the flame element length on the element temperature were analyzed.4.An engineering design software of the onboard flame arrestor was coded via MATLAB,and design results like the quenching diameter,the arrestor element length,flow resistance and detailed structure could be output in term of input data of the vent system.Finally,the software meets the need of engineering design,and can save labour cost and time in the domestic flame arrestor design.5.Compared with test standard of the flame arrestor in China and abroad,according to the airworthiness standard of onboard flame arrestor,test method like pressure test,air/fuel flow rate testing,flame propagation test,flame holding test,vibration test and burst pressure test are formulated,which can be the foundation of airworthiness standard of domestic onboard flame arrestor.
