The onboard flame arrester, a kind of passive safety protection devices, has been widely applied into the aircraft ventilation system and carburetor steam emission system to prevent the flame propagation and spread caused by the ignition source. In term of technical indicators of a flame arrester for XX aircraft fuel ventilation system, a detail design to determine the structural parameters and factors to influence the performance of this flame arrester were conducted.The research involves the following aspects:1.On the basis of the description of the flame arresters structural characteristics, the corrugated flame arrester was selected as the research object, then the calculation method of the quenching diameter and flame element length of onboard flame arresters were analyzed and studied. With the theoretical and experiential calculation formula were systematically summarized to obtain the quenching diameter. A mathematical model of the burning process was set up via the infinitesimal method to calculate the element length and the calculating result was compared with experimental data published on relevant literatures to prove its validity of the model. Finally, the calculation formula of flame element length was offered.2.According to the requirements to design the flame arrester for XX aircraft ventilation system,based on the design and calculation of fire retardance element feature sizes, the effectiveness of the design and calculation of the quenching diameter and flame element length about onboard flame arresters for XX aircraft was verified. The influence caused by the design of feature sizes of onboard flame arresters of fuel combustion temperature, the maximum flame propagation speed and flame element diameter were analyzed.3. A engineering design software of the onboard flame arrester was developed preliminarily via the development kit-VC++, and a design result could be output by inputing the vent system,quenching diameter of flame element and the thickness of the wall.4.Comparing with test standard of the flame arrestor in China and abroad, according to the test medium, pressure and tightness test, pressure loss, detonation and detonation test, a short time combustion test, persistent combustion test and corrosion resistance test, a set of test method about performance of onboard flame arrester was provided.The study results could provide a reference value for the development of the domestic onboardflame arrester.
