Research On Flexible Boundary Design In Urban Public Space

Urban public space is a place for people to release pressure and relax,it has an important influence on the quality of life of urban residents and the external environment of the city.Public space boundary area as the hub of public space and external environment,has the most abundant outdoor activities,and it's also a place where people are happy to stay.However,in the design of urban public space,these extremely important boundary areas are often ignored,so that the spatial boundary is monotonous and the connection between adjacent land is chaotic.Under the background,this paper puts forward the design of flexible boundary of urban public space.Firstly,this paper defines the concept of urban public space and its boundary area,and puts forward that the boundary area is not only the transition space in the place,but also the excitation point of the outdoor activity.It is concluded that the urban boundary area is ambiguous,heterogeneous,hierarchical and public characteristics.Then on the basis of this discussion,according to the relationship between the boundary area and human behavior,introducing the concept of flexible boundary and explain its humanized connotation,and pointing out that dealing with the boundary area of the public space in a flexible way will promote the continuous and visual infiltration between adjacent spaces,and form a transition with a sense of hierarchy.Finally,in the design research content,specific through the investigation and analysis of street boundary area,square boundary area and park boundary area in Wuhan.In the case analysis,the street boundary area is mainly analyzed from the aspects of street facilities,building interface and so on,in order to solve the existing problems,putting forward the flexible boundary design strategy which is to strengthen the communication between the street and the building,to optimize the facilities on the street.The boundary area of the square is analyzed from the design of the road junction space.The square boundary is refined by rationally handling the height difference and floor pavement.The boundary area of the park is studied from the aspects of entrance design and park accessibility.The purpose of the boundary softening design is achieved by using the change of boundary form and the interception of the actual interface.The article applies the concept of flexible boundary to urban public space design,aiming at improving the quality of urban public space boundary areas through flexible boundary design methods,transforming the negative space into a positive space,and creating a more flexible space environment,so that the city public space to play a greater role.
