At present,the traffic situation of major cities in China is deteriorating gradually,and the increasing number of over saturated intersections has seriously hindered the development of social economy.The pre-signal control method controls the flow of a motor vehicle by adding a stop line and a set of signal lights at the entrance of each intersection of the intersection,from the two aspects of improving lane organization and signal timing scheme,the intersection capacity is improved and the traffic jam at the intersection is effectively alleviated.The channelization design of intersection and two different phase sequence schemes are introduced in this paper,and the operation of vehicles under different phase sequence schemes are described.According to the actual situation of the vehicle,in order to accurately calculate the parameters such as the length of waiting area,delay time,need to accurately describe the motor vehicle in the operation process in the waiting area,so a lane selection model based on utility maximization is proposed,a utility value indicates the driver in the waiting area to the satisfaction of the selected lane,and select number of changing lanes and queue length as the factors influencing the driver’s choice of lane,finally using maximum likelihood estimation method choice to calibrate the lane choice model.In order to obtain the optimal signal timing scheme,taking the minimum average vehicle delay at the intersection as the optimization objective,the signal timing parameters and the length of the waiting area were chosen as independent variables,and an optimization model for the timing plan at pre-signal intersection was proposed.The total delay of the pre-signal intersection is equal to the sum of the delay at the pre-signal and the delay at the main signal,while the delay of the pre-signal is the same as that at the traditional intersection,and the transition function is used to calculate the delay,in the main signal delay is generated by the main signal and pre-signal coordination,through the analysis of turn left and straight for vehicles entering the waiting area and leave the waiting area to calculate the delay.Finally,the feasible direction method is adopted to solve the optimal timing plan and the length of waiting area.Finally,a typical intersection is taken as an example to verify the pre-signal control method.The optimal timing plan and minimum average vehicle delay are obtained by matlab simulation after the pre-signal is implemented at the intersection,matlab simulation is carried out on the traditional signalized intersections to obtain average vehicle delay under the optimal timing plan,finally,the delay of the two signal control schemes is compared.The results showed that compared with traditional control method,the pre-signal control method could reduce average vehicle delay as much as 60% under saturation or oversaturation conditions.
