Large LNG stations are built in multiple regions of China.A lot of design and construction experience has been accumulated at the same time in the construction of these stations.But the domestic existing specification and theory can't be depended entirely on for some issues such as the foundation settlement of important structures in the LNG receiving station.Foundation settlement research is still a problem that is worth discussing to provide valuable experience on construction of LNG station in our country.An engineering example is combined in this paper,the finite element method(FEM)software PLAXIS and finite difference method(FDM)software FLAC3D are used to study the foundation settlement of storage tanks and BOG compressor which are two important equipment in the LNG station,and suggestions of monitoring are put forward as well.Specific works are as follows:(1)The constitutive model of rock and soil layer for foundation settlement is established in this paper,and the foundation settlement calculation of FEM and FDM,the dynamic response analysis theory as well as the principle of how to simulate foundation consolidation process by FEM are introduced.At the same time,the test data of soil samples from a LNG station is analyzed and the foundation for the calculation of settlement is provided.(2)The axisymmetric finite element analysis model of the pile foundations of storage tanks and BOG,the plane strain consolidation model for the pile foundation of the compressor by finite element analysis and the foundation settlement analysis model of vibration equipment are established by using PLAXIS according to the site structure and hydrological geology of a practical engineering.Besides,the calculation results are compared with the measured data.(3)Models of the foundation of BOG compressor are established by applying FLAC3D.Numerical simulations of shallow foundation by FDM are carried out and the foundation settlement laws under the load of adjacent buildings are also studied.(4)The settlement of LNG tanks in the next few years is predicted by FEM model,and monitoring advice of tanks and pipe rack is put forward.
