The long baseline positioning system (LBL) is one of the widely used acoustic positioning systems in the world. Its basic mode of operation is to locate the target by the acoustic distance measurement, and the distance metre is an important part of LBL. This paper describes how to accomplish a distance metre' digital hardware platform based on LBL using a three-core DSP of TI company named TMS320C6474.With the advancement in integrated circuit fabrication technology, DSP is developed from single core to multiple cores. Compared with single-core processor, multicore processor has a huge advantage in terms of cost, power consumption and the size,currently being more and more widely used in the industrial field.From the DSP's characteristics,this paper analyzes the feasibility and advantages in using a three-core DSP for the distance metre's design.Then, with the DSP acting as the kernel device, the paper constructs the minimum system circuit modules and peripheral circuits, including the clock circuit, the reset circuit, the JTAG circuitry, the program loading circuit, the AD acquisition circuit, the DDR2 memory circuit, the serial communication circuit, the Ethernet circuit, the pressure control circuit, the temperature sensor circuit and the power circuit. After that, important circuit function module was tested by the development of driver software, and they can work properly.Finally, based on the multiple-core characteristic, inter-core communication principles in different cores were studied and the inter-core communication was accomplished. It has laid a certain foundation for subsequent software development.
