With the development of underwater acoustic technology in and abroad, the underwateracoustic responder is becoming more and more convenient, integrated and multi-functional,compared with the original respond function in early days. As the background of longbaseline positioning system, this paper mainly designed and realized the digital circuit and thesystem software of the underwater acoustic responder with the functions of array calibration,positioning, self-releasing and synchronous beacon.This paper discussed the realization array calibration and positioning functions. In bothconditions running correlation algorithm is used to distinguish array calibration signals andpositioning signals. The signal arriving time is estimated. During responder’s respondingperiods, its depth is uploaded to surface by time delay decoding method. This paper alsoresearched the865-A releaser of Benthos company, designed the decode algorithm of thereleasing commands, which had been proven by MATLAB simulation. The releasermechanical structure is also redesigned.TI Instruments Incorporated’s TMS320VC5509A chip had been chosen as the core ofresponder digital circuit. The minimum DSP system was designed. So were the outer modulecircuits based on the requirement. DSP software development is mainly about systemhardware drive module, real time signal detecting module, synchronous beacon emissionmodule and communication module.Finally, comprehensive test was undertaken to the designed system. Focused on the arraycalibration, positioning, self-releasing functions of the required long baseline underwateracoustic responder, a signal source was used to simulate the input signals of different tasks. Bythe test, the long baseline responder designed in this paper was proven that it could detect anddistinguish several coded signals, which has fulfilled the requirement.
