With the rapid development of smart grid technology, smart grid business are increasingly diverse, the demand on the network is also growing. And Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) as a new wireless multi-hop networks, have the dual advantage of WLAN and Ad Hoc networks can not only increase network scalability, self-healing and reliability, but also to expand the network coverage. Therefore, as the access network, WMNs have been widely used in the smart grids.Although WMN meet the needs of smart grid business, as well as bring some problems. We find that different from traditional networks, the sudden congestion is no longer the main problem in the smart grids. The new source of problem is congestion of key nodes in the WMNs for smart grid. Therefore research on appropriate routing algorithms to solve the problem which is an important to be studied. In this paper, we fully studied the network structure of the WMNs in the smart grids and created a model for the networks, analyzed the problem made in the networks. In order to solve the problem, we have researched the AODV routing algorithm, and then propose an improved AODV routing algorithm based on node remaining capacity(AODV-NRC), which using the node's available remaining capacity as the decision parametes to estibilish the routing metric model so that can choise the best route from source node to destination node. At last, we introduce the basic mechanisms and modeling simulation method of OPNET simulation software, using it designed a simulation scenario and AODV-NRC routing algorithm process model. Performance of AODV-NRC and AODV routing algorithm are compared in the same scenario. Using simulation to prove the correcthess of AODV-NRC routing algorithm theory and the effectiveness in improving network performance. The results demonstrate that the AODV-NRC routing algorithm can effectively improved the problem of data congestion, and enhance the reliability and throughput of WMNs in smart grid.
