With the advancement of people’s living standards and technological upgrading, the intelligent of family gradually becomes an inevitable trend. Among them, low cost, low power consumption and low rate, that Zigbee technology is undoubtedly the best choice for intelligent home. However, since the increasing network size and scope of application in the wireless ad-hoc net, that need to provide more services and types of networks, while the quality of service network also have higher requirements, so how to improve and optimize the network quality of service according to practical applications is the main purpose of this paper. This paper focuses on network performance of wireless ad-hoc networks based on IEEE802.15.4 protocol to analyze and find solutions to improve network performance on the basis of theoretical analysis and experiments. Firstly, via the combination of classic AODV routing protocol and Zigbee network, this paper use NS2 simulation platform to simulate the discovery delay and end-based routing delay under different transmission radius, analyze the influence of the transmission radius on network performance, that will offer recommendations to improve and optimize application ZigBee networks. The simulation results showed that with the transmission radius increases, the route discovery delay would increase, while the end of the delay will be reduced. Therefore, it suggested change the transmission radius nodes according to the needs of different network applications to improve network performance. Secondly, when a group of both terminal and network routing enabled mobile nodes form a multi-hop temporary autonomous system through a wireless link, it forms a new wireless network——the mobile ad-hoc network(Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, MANET). Since mobile ad hoc network is a multi-hop networks, communications between nodes need some other intermediate nodes by storing, forwarding to achieve data transmission. Therefore, a good routing protocol is the most important issue to establish a mobile ad hoc network. This paper will design a QoS-aware routing protocol, namely improved AODV scheme ——AODV-Queue protocol, at the base of AODV, coupled with node interface queue length considerations. The simulation results show that, when the network load is in lighter conditions, AODV-Queue protocol can achieve the same performance AODV; when the network load is heavy, AODV-Queue protocol can significantly improve the problem that dropout rate is too high, which will occur in AODV protocol under heavy load conditions, so the network packet loss rate steady at a very low level.
