Outdoor Public Space’s Research In Old Community For The Aged With The Case Of Chengdu

Under the background of the aging of the world population,more and more countries have entered the aging society,and all the countries in the world have built up their retirement communities.In 90s’ of the past century,China also became one of the aging society characterized by large quantity,rapid development,highly aged,regional differences,getting old before being rich,seriously disabled,etc.,which restrict the development and progress of the society.However,there is an obvious shortage of retirement community construction and most of the old people are still living with their families.Currently,in China exists a huge amount of communities with more than 20 years’ construction which are not suitable at all for the living of the aging people due to the inadequate outdoor public space and the poor environment.Therefore,this paper studied outdoor public space in old communities and tries to update it,in order to meet the needs for the aging people to live their retire life in communities.In this paper,by studying the relevant theory of public space and the physiological,psychological and behavioral characteristics of the aging people,the writer selected three old communities in Chengdu which were built in different years.Through the comparative study of the old communities’ outdoor public space spatial arrangement,green space,communication space and details,the writer summarized the advantage and disadvantage of old communities’ outdoor public space,and tried to propose reasonable measures to update the old communities’ outdoor public space.Combined with the local characteristics of Chengdu,this paper analyzed and updated the status of the old communities’ outdoor public space for the aging people in the following aspects:at first,this paper studied the communities’ structure,functional arrangement,environment and landscape node;secondly,this paper analyzed and updated the current situation of different types of communication space in communities,including traffic space,square space,boundary space,cultural space and complex space.Finally,this paper analyzed the barrier-free design,seat design,mark design,garbage collection design and lighting design.At last,through research and analysis on the status of old communities,the writer tried to summarize the characteristics of the communities’ outdoor public space,including public.relatively private and comunicative,and put forward some suggestion for the update of the old communities’ outdoor public space for the aging people.All in all,for design of communities’ outdoor public space for the aging people,we should pay attention to factors like function,safety,comfort,health,accessibility and identification of the communities.
