Wuhai City,surrounded by Ulan Buh sesert,Kubuqi desert and Mao Wusu desert,is a typical water shortage city characterized by dry and hot climate,less annual rainfall,high evaporation and serious shortage of groundwater resources.In recent years,the urban green area of Wuhai City has showed an increasing growth trend which is accompanied by the frequent occurrence of “Water robbing between people and trees” owing to the increasing shortage of water for greening and water has become the main factor restricting the further development of urban greening in Wuhai City.Through the analysis of water-saving construction theory and practical case in domestic and foreign desert areas,the current advanced water-saving technologies and methods have been summarized in this paper which involve opening up new source and requtating the flow.Develop new water resource for greening to gradually replace the underground water;plant a massive of native trees,select species of drought-resistant plants and establish the composite plant community structure of tree,shrub and grass;enhance the use of water-saving irrigation technology to improve water use efficiency through technical improvement;taking landscaping and water saving in Wuhai City as the research object,the types of water resources available and water-saving technologies in Wuhai City have been analyzed from the perspective of opening up new source and requtating the flow through field research and new water-saving strategies of landscaping and water-saving have been put forward based on the status quo of water-saving.Strategies for opening up new source: first: develop new water resource for greening,promote the use of the Yellow River water in city green land by making full use of the rich water resources of transit Yellow River and apply the water-saving irrigation technology into the water irrigation system of the Yellow River to achieve the water-saving of water resources and technologies;second,as a new water resource,the city water has huge potential which under the current situation,can be converted into water for greening with the advantage of convenience;third,combining with the water system in the city,the utilization value of rainwater and flood can be developed.Strategies for requtating the flow: first: plant a massive of native tree species and improve the water saving potential of plants;second,select drought-resistant plants under new cultivation,introduce seed to plant and vigorously promote;third,increase the planting intensity of fine ground cover plants;fourth,increase the research and extension of wild plants;fifth,strengthen the popularization and management of water-saving technology.There are three innovation points in this paper: first is the innovative application of the Yellow River water in opening up new source which aims to achieve the application of drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation in the Yellow River mountain areas by drip irrigation and spray irrigation on the flat ground;second is that Wuhai city is rich in water resources and the existing pipeline network creates a mature condition for the application of city water into green land and effectively conserves the Yellow River water and groundwater;third is to give to play the advantage of water-saving plants and reduce the water consumption of plants to achieve the goal of water-saving.Through the research on the measures of landscaping and water-saving in desert city Wuhai and combination of the actual cases,some references to the further development of large-scaled landscaping water in Wuhai City have been put forward in this paper.
